Drew Diener, Founder
Drew Diener is a championship winning coach with 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, known for building high character teams and developing players at every level. Before joining Rockhurst University, he turned Cardinal Stritch into a national powerhouse, compiling a 168–43 record, winning six conference titles, and capturing the 2013 NAIA Division II National Championship, earning National Coach of the Year honors.
At Rockhurst, Diener led the Hawks to multiple winning seasons and a return to GLVC tournament play, establishing a reputation for disciplined, high IQ basketball and strong player development.
Diener previously served on the staff at the University of Virginia, working in both assistant and operations roles. During his tenure, UVA earned an NCAA Tournament berth, giving him Division I experience in recruiting, scouting, and player development at the highest level.
A former standout at Saint Louis University, Diener finished his career as one of the program’s top shooters, ranking 5th all time in three point percentage (40%) and helping the Billikens reach the NCAA Tournament and two NIT appearances.
Beyond college coaching, Diener is the founder of Diener Basketball, a successful youth development and camp organization known for high level instruction, fundamentals, and competitive skill training for players across the Midwest. Drew and his wife, Kelly, have 3 sons, Everett, Rozey, and Xavier.
Basketball Camp Origins
Coach Drew Diener grew up attending summer camps run by his dad, Dick Diener, held in their hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. His father made the camps fun, fast paced, and helped improve the campers' basketball fundamentals.
Coach Diener took those camp qualities and applied them to the University of Virginia camps when he became the Director of Basketball Operations in 2005. Coach Diener was able to organize and run all types of basketball camps including day, overnight, team, and elite camps. Coach Diener started his own day camps in 2010 in Glendale, Wisconsin after his second year as head coach at Cardinal Stritch University. The founding fathers of the original day camp enjoyed their experience so much that they asked for more opportunities, hence, Drew Diener Camps started to grow.
Coach Diener has held camps in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Kansas and is now expanding to small group sessions, shooting lessons, before school Morning Clinics, and Pop-up Camps in brand new locations.
Kelly Diener,
Kelly Diener is the business manager for the camps located in Wisconsin. She is responsible for organizing the camps and is the primary contact for all the parents and families who need information about camps located in Wisconsin.
Prior to starting Drew Diener Camps, LLC with her husband, Diener was the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services. She joined the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee staff in September 2011 and has focused on structuring an academic support program that allows student-athletes to meet their academic potential.
Prior to becoming a member of Milwaukee’s Athletics Department, Diener worked as an admissions counselor at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, where she recruited and assisted in the admissions process for high school graduates, transfers and international students.
From 2006-09, Diener was an academic coordinator in the University of Virginia Athletics Department. She worked with several sports including the nationally ranked baseball, men’s tennis and women’s soccer programs. Diener also organized and supervised the tutoring program for all sports and trained, scheduled and managed a staff of 65 tutors and mentors.
Diener also interned at the National Collegiate Athletics Association in the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. She was the first intern in that specific area and it led to her position at Virginia. Diener’s initial athletics administration experience started at North Carolina State University where she lettered in women’s soccer and interned in the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA). Diener wrote her thesis on the academic support services provided by ASPSA and presented her findings to the staff. Graduating with a bachelors and master’s degree in Parks Recreation and Tourism, Diener made the most of her opportunities as a student-athlete.
